NEWS FIRST:

I’ll be showing some of my recent work in October 23 (opening night talk @ 6:30pm) to December 31 a t the J. Frank Wright Gallery in the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
My short history is that I’ve always made art. I was the girl who ignored Barbie in favour of crayons and Spirographs and Playdoh. My after school activities were hanging out and creating in the art room through high school.
I left the Maritimes after high school for Kingston, Ontario and a BFA at Queen’s, majoring in sculpture. My final thesis was comprised of metal and concrete representations of everyday objects. I was fascinated with everyday objects, those things we take for granted, that we often ignore, that form who we are, that make up our cultural values, and form our memories.
Travelling through my unplanned life I ended up with a PhD in cognitive psychology and worked as a researcher. In my own research my two main interests were the cognition of everyday creativity and how our everyday spoken interactions affect our perceptions and our relationships.
I’ve returned now to the Maritimes, settling in Cape Breton where my parents were raised and where we came every summer to visit family. I am super grateful that I can create here in my own little studio overlooking the Bras D’Or Lake, in Lime Hill. It is the best possible place I can imagine being. I can’t ever find enough hours in the day to create and my mind is full of ideas without end. And that, in my opinion, is the best way to be.
